Props Manager

Key Responsibilities

Props Manager, as with other members of the production team, will work closely with the Director to coordinate props that reflect the look and ambience that will support the overall artistic vision for the production. Props may include food and drink – real or simulated.
The Stage Manager is in overall charge of the props during the performance along with the Props Manager.

Supporting Activities

  • Meets with the director to develop a joint understanding of all props needed for the production.

  • Compiles a list of items required for every scene in the play.

  • Checks the STS storage room in the trailer behind the legion for props “on hand”.

  • Searches for props should start early.

  • Works closely with the Stage Manager to look out for props and help with their storage and transportation.

  • Acquires the rest of the props from wherever it is necessary. Checks with STS members with requests for loans. May advertise a need in the Pender Post and explore material available at the Nu-to-You store.

  • Buys props only as a last resort and with prior approval.

  • Labels and lists borrowed props to identify the owner.

  • Delivers or arranges delivery of props to the hall when they are required.

  • Works with the stage manager to make sure the right prop gets into the hands of the actor when they need it.

  • After each performance puts props into the right place for the next scene or performance.

  • After the last performance, returns all props to their owners or to the Solstice props room.
