Director

Key Responsibilities

The director’s function is to ensure the quality and completeness of the production and to lead the members of the creative team into realizing their artistic vision for it. She collaborates with, and in many ways is the leader of, a team of creative individuals on stage and behind the scenes for the production. After the playwright the director is generally the primary visionary making decisions on the artistic concept and interpretation of the play and its staging.

Supporting Activities

  • Co-ordinates and provides leadership to the creative team to ensure the quality and completeness of the production.

  • Co-ordinates research, stagecraft, costume design, props, lighting design, acting, set design.

  • Submits a projected budget for the production.

  • Books the Community Hall for the dates of the performance.

  • Obtains scripts and performance licenses.

  • Recruits a producer and stage manager.

  • With the producer, organizes auditions.

  • Casts the play, advising successful and unsuccessful applicants.

  • Outlines her vision of the characters and the play.

  • Develops and then implements a rehearsal schedule.

  • Informs the Board concerning the ongoing status of the current production by attending board meetings that run concurrent with the production.
