June Pender Post

Despite the fact island gatherings are still prohibited, Solstice Theatre hasn’t been sitting still, though we have been mainly sitting. We had a virtual AGM last month and want to thank retiring Board members Keith Smith and Nancy Westell for all their hard work. They may have stepped down from the Board but both have said they will continue to be involved in future Solstice productions.

We want to say a special thanks to our retiring president Keith. Keith has been instrumental in setting a strong, forward path for the club. He created two fabulous pantos that were truly community events. He was our set builder extraordinaire and the force behind many technical improvements including the trailer, lighting systems, stage upgrades, and the overhead lighting truss. He and Tilly deserve an enormous thanks for all their work and goodwill.

As well as being an incredible prop and costume person, Nancy has worked hard keeping track of members and the membership list. We are excited she will continue her involvement in productions. Thank you, Nancy.

This year our new Board is: Evan Llewellyn, President, Rutger Kamphuis, Vice-President, Barb Pender, Treasurer and Margaret Alpen, Secretary, as well as Tammy Adolph, Jane Harrison, Helen Lemon-Moore, Barry Mathias, Karen Parker, and, Joy Thierry Llewellyn.

Our plans for Four Weddings and an Elvis are still on hold and we hope to perform this play for you in late October but, of course, we don’t know what the situation will be then, so we will keep you informed. We are, however, experimenting with a virtual play reading. Here On The Flight Path is a Norm Foster comedy in three acts, and we plan to have this play reading via Zoom. If you want to stay up-to-date regarding all things Solstice, consider joining our theatre society, membership is only $5. Send an email to [email protected]. Or fill out a form in the Solstice folder at the real estate office.
We hope you will stay healthy, we want to thank everyone for their efforts in keeping all our fellow Penderites safe, and we look forward to our island returning to the outgoing, performing-art-loving community it is.
