January Pender Post article

We hope your holiday season was joyful and are excited about the new year. We have a lot planned for the coming year but first we look back. On December 23rd we had a wonderful reading of A Christmas Carol and sang carols with our community members, a big thanks to Stephanie Jackson and choir members for leading us all in song after the play reading. The event was a fundraiser for the community hall and we are looking forward this year to working both in and with our community hall to keep it the wonderful gathering place for performing arts it is. In December we also had a play reading of ‘It’s a wonderful Life’ a Christmas classic live radio show. Thanks to Barb for hosting that reading.

We have more play readings planned in this month and the coming months as we very much enjoy these evenings and afternoons of “acting out” in good company. If you’d like to join us for these readings just email [email protected]
The first weekend of April we will be performing our next production; 4 Weddings and an Elvis. The auditions for this really funny play were in December and we are excited to work with our cast of experienced, new and “new-to-us” actors. This play will feature four separate weddings, four of the most memorable ones of Las Vegas chapel owner Sandy. This play set-up also gives us the opportunity to give multiple directors a go. We’ve had several members interested in directing a play but of course a whole play can seem daunting to start out with so in this play each Act/Wedding will be directed by a different director. These directors are: Karen Parker, Tammy Adolf, Tania Honan-Smith and a directing duo of Sitka Honan-Smith and Grace Parker. A big backstage team of stage designers, costume designers, props managers and tech people is ready to go and is excited about this play. If you are interested in participating in Solstice, whether on-stage, backstage, tech or just join us for play readings, email [email protected] or just talk to anyone you know that is already with Solstice.
